Vehicle tracker is an electronic tool or a device that enables to track the vehicles, as well as the exact location of the vehicle along with the GPS coordinates. Initially, vehicle tracking system was used for the security  reasons like getting the vehicles location in the cases of theft. But now, vehicle tacking system has become very common and most of the parents are using them to track their children activities and some of them are using to track the safety and security of their loved ones. GPS tracker is an electronic device that can be placed in the vehicle, and captures the GPS location of the vehicle and sends to the central server in regular intervals.  Apart from the GPS location, GPS tracker is designed to capture other important information like fuel levels, engine temperature, altitude, reverse geocoding, tire pressure, battery status, GSM area code/cell code decoded etc. Coming to the second component GPS tracking server makes sure that received data to store it safely and serve the same information to the user on demand.  The last component User interface, which determines how to access the data that was captured by the GPS tracker and stored by the GPS tracking server.

Types of Vehicle Trackers & Vehicle Tracking System:

In the current market there are variety of vehicle tracking devices available, but depending on the mechanism they work, they can be classified into 2 types they are, Passive vehicle tracker devices and Active vehicle tracker devices. Basically, both devices purpose is same and they serve almost all the things in similar the only difference between them is Passive vehicle tracker collects the data and stores the data, and such stored data can be retrieved when the vehicle comes back to the determined location, but in case of Active vehicle tracker, it is live, i.e. it collects the data and transmits the same to the GPS tracking server in real time. Besides most of the recent vehicle tracking devices are playing both the roles such as they act like Active vehicle tracking devices when the cellular network is available and transmitting the data in real time to the GPS tracker server, they also act like passive devices and stores the data, whenever there is no cellular network.

There are different vehicle tracking systems that are being widely used worldwide depending on their requirements, the most commonly used systems are Vehicle OBD tracking system, Fleet management tracking system.

Vehicle OBD Tracking Systems:

The full form of OBD is Onboard Diagnostic, Vehicle OBD tracking systems works with the help of OBD GPS trackers that are placed in the Onboard Diagnostic. Coming to the cellular based OBD GPS tracker, they capture the data and transmits the data to the GPS tracking server by using the cellular network. The tracker device which is incorporated in OBD, uses the power from the OBD port and sends the signal via antenna to the server. Besides, the OBD tracking devices are designed in such a way that they can communicate with the other OBD tracking devices that are placed in different vehicle subsystems.
